4.-Judy-and-Gigi

Our next Weekend Film Series on Sunday, January 18, sponsored by Gosling’s, will feature a beautifully shot nature documentary, and a second doc that has been shortlisted for the 2015 Oscar for Best Documentary.

Pelican Dreams (3 p.m.) is the latest film by Sundance and Emmy award-winning filmmaker Judy Irving, whose previous film The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill screened to a sold out audience at the BUEI. The film follows a wayward California brown pelican beginning with her “arrest” on the Golden Gate Bridge and explores pelicans’ nesting grounds, Pacific coast migration – and their survival challenges.

Art and Craft (5.15 p.m.) turns the spotlight on legendary art forger Mark Landis, who for 30 years forged the works of Picasso and many others – and donated them to institutions across the United States. A tenacious registrar uncovers his ruse, and sets out to expose his philanthropic escapades to the art world. The film has been shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Both films will screen in the Tradewinds Auditorium of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

Reserve tickets by calling 294-0204 or visiting the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI.
