Our popular Weekend Film Series returns on Sunday, February 16 with a documentary doubleheader – Music for Mandela at 3 p.m. and More than Honey at 5.15 p.m.
Music for Mandela explores the role that music played in the remarkable life of Nelson Mandela. Talking to friends and fellow political prisoners, as well as exiled musicians – and even his grandson, hip hop artist Bambatha Mandela – the film tells how resistance songs kept hope alive for the anti-apartheid movement even as its most prominent leaders were imprisoned.
More than Honey a tackles the vexing question of why bees worldwide are dying off. Exquisite macro-photography of the bees in flight and in their hives reveals a fascinating, complex world in crisis. Beekeeper Jenny Faries will provide an update on Bermuda’s bee population, and take audience questions, after the screening.
The Weekend Film Series, sponsored by Gosling’s, screens at the Tradewinds Auditorium at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Tickets available now from the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI or by calling 294-0204.
