On screen for September

Freda Kelly with Beatle Paul McCartney.

Our next Weekend Film Series on Sunday, September 15 features The Beatles and a Sundance Film Festival award winner.

Good Ol’ Freda (3 p.m.)  is a documentary that tells the previously untold story of Freda Kelly, a shy teenager plucked from her desk at a Liverpool typing pool to become the first secretary and manager of The Beatles fan club. Featuring original Beatles music, the film offers an affectionate insider’s perspective of one of the greatest rock bands in history.

Lake Bell won the Screenwriting Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival for the romantic comedy In a World (5.15 p.m.), which she also directs and stars as Carol, a struggling vocal coach who strikes it big in the cut-throat world of movie trailer voiceovers but finds herself in direct competition with the industry’s reigning king – her father. It also features Geena Davis, Eva Longoria and Cameron Diaz in cameo roles.

The  Weekend Film Series, sponsored by Gosling’s, screens at the Tradewinds Auditorium at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. Tickets available now from the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI or by calling 294-0204.
